"When I actually put the shoes on and was able to feel how the vibration went with the sound, it was just mind-blowing."

Fate has a funny way of finding its way to us and making itself known, especially when we least expect it. For professional football player Albert Wilson, his path to discovering his passion for football was undeniably destined--and sealed with a kiss when he scored on his very first play, in his very first game. As he recalls during a recent conversation with the DropLabs team, he was beyond nervous for the opportunity to enter the field when he was around six years old. Although football has since emerged as a clear focus in Albert's life, it wasn't without hard work, perseverance and a dedication to self-improvement that he's in the position he is today as a player for the NFL.

"It feels like you're walking in surround sound; you get the bass, you get the different tones."

Currently, Albert can be found holding it down for the Miami Dolphins as a wide receiver and dedicating his time to giving back to the community. As a proud Florida native originally hailing from the Fort Pierce area of Florida, the 27-year-old has truly hit a stride at this stage in his career, thriving at the intersection of athleticism and philanthropy. Growing up, Albert was in and out of the foster care system, an experience that shaped his perspective and inspired him to start his own foundation dedicated to giving back to those in a similar situation that he had as a kid. Aptly named the Albert Wilson Foundation, Albert and his team host a variety of charity events throughout the calendar year, as well as dedicate their time to cultivating a strong positive support system for the youth.

In addition to being a leading force on the field and in the community, Albert is also an enthusiast of the entertainment world, filling his off spare time with movies and gaming. As a self-described homebody, Albert turns to entertainment as a way to relax during his rare off days. During our chat for DropLabs, Albert shares a bit more about how he got started in football, what his go-to words of advice are and what he does to ensure he's always game day ready.

What do you do for a living and what helped you get started?

At the moment, I play for the Miami Dolphins. Before that, I played four years in Kansas City and went to Georgia State University where I played four years there. I'm originally from Port St. Lucie and was born and raised in Fort Pierce.

I was in and of the foster care system growing up so now me and my best friend run a foundation that caters to helping out foster kids. The foundation's focus is on everyday things that a foster kid goes through, that my sisters and I went through. We cater to those needs, whether it's just spending a day with them, mentoring them and just making sure they are having a good type of day. We also raise money to do back-to-school drives, toy drives for Christmas and turkey drives for Thanksgiving, that kind of thing. Our ultimate goal is to get scholarships to foster kids out of state. My big opportunity came from an out-of-state college and I want to pay it forward to help other foster kids get out of Florida for opportunities to further their education.

Do you have an early memory you’d like to share about when you first discovered your passion for football?

I remember my first time I actually played organized football. I pretty much just showed up on the day of the game; it was maybe the second game of the season. I just showed up and sat there the whole game, just waiting. The coaches didn't know who I was and I didn't know any of the plays or anything. In the second half, they decided to put me in. I remember being so nervous, and thinking to myself like, 'They are going to put me in and I just got here, I don't know nothing!' [Laughs.] I was so nervous. I remember they gave me a toss and I ran around everybody and scored on my very first play. It was just history from there. I realized early on I loved playing this game. I was around six years old at the time and that was pretty much all she wrote about football.

Now, years later, what do you do to tap into your zone before a game?

I prepare myself well during the week, throughout the off-season and throughout the regular season so my big thing is just treating every day like a new day. I'm going out there to practice and to keep doing the same thing I've been doing. I'm definitely big on my routine. If I let the day be bigger than just another day, it doesn't help me get in my zone. But if I treat it like just a regular day and go out there and be myself, that pretty much does it for me. I don't have any particular song or wake-up routine or anything like that. A lot of it comes down to discipline.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?

During the season, the NFL usually gives you one day out of the week to do nothing. During the off-season, there will be more days at a time where you're able to chill. During the season, when I have a day off, I'll start my morning off with boxing. I usually box with my fiancée and then we'll get a good breakfast in. We'll go get our feet done, which is my big day off thing, just gotta make sure they're all good and ready to go for the week. If I don't have any plans to do any community service with my foundation or with the team, it'll be a big chill day. My fiancée and I like to catch the $6 movie tickets on Tuesday where the theater does half off. Definitely kicking back and relaxing. Watching movies was what sold me the most about DropLabs; it really gives you a different experience.

What surprised you the most about trying out DropLabs Technology?

I think for me just talking about it and learning about it doesn't give it justice. When I actually put the shoes on and was able to feel how the vibration went with the sound, it was just mind-blowing.

How would you explain the DropLabs experience to your friends?

I was saying this when I first tried 'em on but it's kind of like a portable surround sound system. It feels like you're walking in surround sound; you get the bass, you get the different tones. You're able to hear every beat or instrumental that's being used, or if you're playing a game, it makes you feel around you. It's more than just hearing; it's crazy and also very useful in many different ways.

What would be your approach to utilizing DropLabs; are you more-so a music person, gaming, etc.?

Aw man, I'm really into it all [Laughs]. I'm really just a homebody so everything from playing games to watching movies to just listening to music while I'm traveling or just before games. I pretty much do it all so it definitely is a useful thing for me. It definitely gave me a different experience.

The vibrations for meditation made a big difference for me too. I've tried meditating with, you know, the sounds and quietness and have tried to get into the zone. It didn't work too well for me so having the vibrations with the sound gave me a different feel and really helped me out with bringing me to a peaceful state of mind.

As someone who has a lot of resilience, what would be your words of advice to keep moving forward?

My thing is just to try things. A lot of people say they want to do things for a long time and when they finally do it, they don't really have the passion for it, or they don't really like it. I would say to try a lot of stuff while you're young and don't have too much responsibility or things holding you back. Just try as many different things as possible and if you find something that you're passionate about early, something that you love, everything with that and in that career path will come easy for you.
